The Difference between Birds It was eight thirty in the morning when the line of students filed into Mrs. Baum's classroom. The children quickly placed their homework on the teacher's desk in three perfect piles and their various belongings in small wooden boxes which measured to exactly one cubic foot. They walked rigidly to their desks, which were arranged in four perfect rows of four facing the blackboard at the front of the room. Each student seemed to be identical, like they had been created on an assembly line using the same mold. Of these sixteen ideal products of Mrs. Baum's teaching, two seemed to be defective.
